Albert "Al" Charles Cereghino, Jr. of Waynesboro, Virginia died Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, Virginia after a brief illness.

He was born on June 7, 1923 in Jersey City, New Jersey the son of late Albert Charles Cereghino, Sr. and Mary Greenfield Cereghino Korn. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Grace Veronica Nevins and a son Neil Albert Cereghino.

Al served in the United States Navy in World War II as a Lieutenant. He later graduated from St. Peters College with a B.S. in Chemistry and a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. Al was promoted to Vice President of Marketing and General Manager of Sales for Humko Chemical, Inc. He was a life long member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Waynesboro where he served on the parish council and as a choir member. Al was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving family members include his wife of nine years, Alice Brandt Cereghino; his sons, Mark P. Cereghino of St. Louis, MO; Albert Cereghino, III and his wife Caren C. Cereghino of Forest, VA; his daughters, Patricia M. O'Shaughnessy of Alexandria, IN; Grace T. Schmidlin and her husband David J. Schmidlin of Cincinnati, OH; Mary B. Derner and her husband David W. Derner of Austin, TX; his step-son Michael H. Brandt and his wife Gwyneth H. Brandt of McGaheysville, VA; his step-daughters Linda A. Adams and her husband James E. Adams of Hong Kong; Melanie L. Gibson and her husband Craig Gibson of Charleston, SC; Mary B. Sayre and her husband R. Scott Sayre of Lexington, VA and Jacqueline B. Meadows and her husband Jeffery A. Meadows of Waynesboro, VA. His 7 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 9, 2008 at McDow Funeral Home, 1701 West Main Street, Waynesboro, Virginia from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 10, 2008 at 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 344 Maple Avenue, Waynesboro, Virginia to be conducted by Reverend Rolo Castillo. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 674 Hillsdale Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
