Ann McCracken Hoffman, 90, passed away Sunday, September 10th, 2023 at Summit Square, Waynesboro.

She was born July 14, 1933 in Charlottesville.  She was raised in Waynesboro and graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1950.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Laura and Roy McCracken, her husband Carl Dean Hoffman, and her sister Nancy McCracken Hintze.  She is survived by her children, William Dean Hoffman (Melissa) of Evans , GA, Karen Hoffman Guy (David) of Raleigh, NC, and Roy Alan Hoffman (Lynn) of Clarksville, TN, 5 grandchildren (Drew, Deanna, Claire, Shae, Laura) and 4 great-grandchildren (Emma Kate, Carter, Jasper, Emery), and her beloved niece, Laura Hintze Daugherty.

In her youth she was active in sports, playing basketball and field hockey. She remained an avid sports fan throughout her life, especially pro and college football.

She married Carl Dean Hoffman in 1954.  They spent the early years of their marriage in Richmond, VA where she worked as a secretary for VEPCO while Carl completed his college degree following his Army service. They relocated to Waynesboro in the late 50s when Carl began his career at DuPont. Thereafter she devoted her life to raising her family, championing all her childrens' endeavors.

Following the untimely death of her husband in 1985, she took pleasure in visiting her children wherever their careers took them in the US, Germany, and Spain.  She volunteered at the Red Cross, Westminster Presbyterian Church, and the SPCA.  She loved movies from the Golden Age of Hollywood and possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of classic cinema.

She became a resident of Summit Square in 2012 and made many dear friends there. A heartfelt thank you to her caregivers and friends at Summit.  You are truly special.

Visitation will be held at McDow Funeral home Wednesday September 13th from 6 to 8 pm.  The funeral service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church Thursday, September 14th at 10:00 am with the interment at Augusta Memorial Park to follow.

In lieu of flowers the family asks those wishing to make a donation in the memory of Ann Hoffman to Summit Square, Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Red Cross, the SPCA or a charity of their choice.
