Barbara Lee Short Hewitt, age 85, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024. Born on April 7, 1939, she was the daughter of William Gordon Short and Annette Owen Short of Bramwell, West Virginia. In addition to her parents Barbara was preceded in death by her son Michael Gordon Hewitt, husband Carl Hewitt, Jr, sister Phyllis St. Clair, brothers Terry Short and William Gordon Short, Jr. Survivors include her daughter Melissa Karol Hewitt and fiancé Keith J. Slagle, her brother Frank Short (Debbie), sister in law Greta Short, special friends Millie Hiner, and Brenda Davis, and grand cats, Henri, Rosie and Charlotte. Barbara spent most of her career as bookkeeper for W.O.I.W, Buck Shot Hill Farms, and A Little Something Sweet. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, some of her favorite passions included art, painting and playing cards. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at McDow Funeral Home. Pastor Rachel Hamburger will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm on Monday, August 26, 2024, at McDow Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Smyrna Presbyterian Church, or Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center.
