Bettie Alice Dixon Powell, 94 of 501 Oak Avenue, died Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Summit Square where she had lived since December of 2009.
Bettie was born September 9, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland, to Floyd C. and Bernice D. Dixon.
Bettie graduated June 2, 1952 from the University of North Carolina Women's College and then continued her education to become a Laboratory Technologist. She worked in the laboratory at Waynesboro Hospital from the 60's until she retired in the early 90's. She later went on to give Teddy Bear tours to young people at the then new Augusta Health Hospital
Bettie was a member of Fishersville United Methodist Church where she was an active member until her health no longer allowed her to participate.
Bettie is predeceased by her husband, Edwin F. Powell. She is survived by 3 daughters, Linda A. Powell, Jan P. Glass, and Cynthia P. Kelley; and two grandchildren (Max Glass and Megan Toth) and 4 great grandchildren.
Bettie donated her body to the Virginia State Anatomical Program, so services will be determined at a later date.
Many thanks to the staff at Summit Square who gave direct care to Bettie, over the past eight and a half years. Their professionalism and love allowed Bettie to live a contented life with dignity and fun.
