Obituary

The Rev. Bishop Jonathan Eugene King, 77, resident of Waynesboro, VA, passed away Friday afternoon, November 20, 2020 at Augusta Health.

A son of the late Gordon Clinton King and Mildred Helen (Agee) King, he was born September 3, 1943.

He is survived by his wife Judy (Sexton) King of 57 years; children, Donna King Gentry, Jonathan Mark King, Phillip Scott King, and Melody Ann King; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 remaining sisters and 2 brothers.

1964 started his 46 year pastoral journey. In addition to pastoring, he was also a missionary in Jamaica and was an evangelist to many congregations throughout the United States. He was also a brilliant Bible scholar as he held many degrees from several universities including Lee University, Harriston University in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Sweetbriar College, BRCC, and Liberty University.

Before his death, he was very close to receiving his PhD in Theological Studies. Not only was he a KING but almost a doctor.

He started in military service in 1961 which included the Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, the Reserves, and the National Guard in which he served as chaplain. He finished his military career with honors in 1994.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 24 th at McDow Funeral Home. Due to covid19 restrictions, we kindly ask that all attending please wear face coverings.

The graveside service will be held Wednesday November 25 th at 11:00 AM at Riverview Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Mike Gentry and Rev. Mike Napier. All are welcome.
