Carl (Chip) Francis Irwin Jr., 79, of 141B Brandon Ladd Circle Waynesboro, died 01/01/2021, 1:41 PM at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wilmington Delaware on August 22, 1941, a son of Dr. Carl F. Irwin, Sr. and Elsie Esther Randt Irwin.

He married in June 1965 and had two sons; Carl F. Irwin III (Skip) and Gregory S. Irwin.

Carl graduated from West Chester State University in 1965 with a BS in Chemistry. His 37 year career was spent at Dupont in Waynesboro as an 'Engineer/Chemist'. His informative years were spent in the 'LYCRA' spandex fiber division developing new fiber deniers, composition changes, environmental improvements and expansion projects. He spent time in management and Process Development where he really got to express his individualism and develop his "book learned" skills. He traveled the Spandex world from Ireland, Singapore to Canada and Brazil.

Carl leaves behind his two sons; Skip and Gregory, six grand children; Michael, Kevin, Jeffrey, Kristopher, Hallie, and Jennifer. He had made a commitment to Big Brothers/Big Sisters that enriched his spirit and leaves behind a "Little", Kyle Wertman.

It is with warmth and loving memories that he leaves this world of physical feeling and all that life brings to the spiritual side. He remembered his fab 14 each and every Sunday at Church; Mom, Dad, Leo, Howard, George, Bobby, Charlie, Jerry, John, Rex, Wayne, Joe, Gil, and Bobby. To his life long friends; Scott and Joan he wishes all that sweetness that life provides even in the snow.

Life provided him experiences that he never imagined as a long loving member of this world's family. He is indebted to all the people that he had the chance to encounter during his rich life. Each of them stimulated some sense of goodness and richness that enhanced his life.
