Obituary

Charles Nelson Key Jr “Chuck” 78, passed away Monday September 28, 2026 one day shy of 79th birthday.

Born on September 29, 1947 to the late Charles N. Key and Martha Diehl Key.

Chuck graduated from Waynesboro High School and enlisted in the Air Force and retired after serving 25 years with the rank of Master Sargeant, stationed all around the world as a radar repairman and then as an OSI (Office of Special Investigation) technical agent.

He worked for USPS in the Richmond distribution center as a mechanic on the sorting machines and retired in 2014 and continued to live in Chesterfield, Virginia.  Chuck was a lover of animals and had several over the years.

Chuck went into an Assisted Living apartment in Salem Virginia.. Then into a skilled nursing facility where he passed away.

Survived by sister, Margaret Key Barbera "Peggy" and husband George Francis Robertson "Tinker"; two nephews, Joseph & Jimi; brother, James C Key "Jim" and his wife Cathy Heigel Key; nephew, Daniel and his wife Kelly; two great nieces, Nora and Lyra and nephew Jacob; sister, Martha Ann Coughtry and husband David L Coughtry II; nephew, David L Coughtry III and Wife Rachel; two great nephews D. Laird Coughtry IV and Abram; niece, Katharine A Hayden "Katie" and husband Zachary Hayden "Zach"; two great nephews Henry and Charlie. He was married for 5 years in the early 70's to Pamela Woltjen and divorced.

A Graveside Service will be held Friday October 16, 2026 at Augusta Memorial Park officiated by Pastor Morris Fleischer with Full Military Honors by the U.S. Air Force.  A reception will be held after the service at Main Street United Methodist Church.
