Charles Dovel, age 88, passed on into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 7, 2025.
Born on January 12, 1937 in Luray, Virginia, he was the son of the late Samuel Paul Dovel and the late Frances Spitler Dovel of Stanley, Virginia.
Charles, along with his parents, was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Allen Dovel; his niece, Sherry Duncan; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his wife, the love of his life, Betty Alger Dovel. They were married on October 11, 1957 and shared 68 years of treasured memories together. Also surviving are his son, Craig LaVon Dovel and his wife Glenna; his grandsons, Derek Scott Dovel and his wife Alexis, Christopher Jay Dovel and his wife Amber, and Clinton Levi Dovel; his great-granddaughters, Marley Dovel and Isla Dovel; and his sister, Nancy Lee Duncan.
Charles graduated from Stanley High School in 1956 and attended Blue Ridge Community College.
He retired from the DuPont plant in Waynesboro after 42 years of service. He then drove a school bus for Augusta County for 22 years.
He enjoyed being with his family at gatherings and spent his time working in his yard and collecting and tinkering with his classic cars.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the entire staff of Augusta Health Center and Roanoke Memorial Hospital for the excellent care given to our loved one during his stay.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on December 6, 2025, at Hermitage Presbyterian Church located at 46 Hildebrand Church Road, Waynesboro, Virginia. His Pastor, Stacy Burkholder, will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a donation to Bridge Christian Church in Fishersville, Virginia, where Charles was a member; or a contribution to the Alzheimer's Association.
