Charles Franklin Tate, 78, passed away peacefully at his home on July 7, 2023. He was born in Shenandoah, Virginia on September 1, 1944, a son of the late Cassell Tate and Frances Hensley.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert (Bob) Tate, and his sister, Carolyn Campbell.

Frank was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School.  Prior to his retirement in 1989, he was employed by Dupont for 25 years.  He was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed the simple elements of life: spending time with family and friends, playing and listening to music, watching sports and movies.  He was quick to help others in need and bestowed his love and gratitude toward others daily.

In addition to his wife, Becky Tate, of 36 years, he is survived by his two daughters, Suzanne Miller and her husband Daryl of Fort Defiance, Virginia and Cindy Hall and her husband David of Ellington, Connecticut.  He was blessed with four grandchildren:  Clay Miller and wife Sarah, Bryce Miller, Drew Hall, and Emma Hall as well as two great grandchildren, Wade and Lilah Miller.   He is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law:  Donna Smith of Covington, VA; Wally Lafferty and wife Judith of New Port Richey, Florida; Webbie Hemp and husband Glenn of Waynesboro, VA; Gary Campbell of Afton, VA.

Additionally, he is survived by nieces and nephews:  Kim Fries of Myrtle Beach, SC; Kathy Campbell of Grottoes, VA; Robbie Tate of Stanley, VA; Brandon Tate of Luray, VA; Phoebe Hicks of Covington, VA; Matthew Lafferty of Kissamee, Michigan; Aaron Lafferty of Burlington, Vermont; Amy Lafferty of Central Square, New York.   Also, he was blessed to have a life-long friend, Ronnie Baber, who was like a brother to him.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 15th, 2023, at New Hope United Methodist Church by Pastor Mike Reaves.  The family will receive guests in the social hall of the church following the Memorial Service.

A private graveside service will be held for immediate family.
