Donna Faye Dummer Johnson was born March 17, 1946 to Ernest and Ronolda Dummer in Gregory, South Dakota.  She was the baby sister to her brother, LeRoy and sister, Mary Lou.

She was raised on the family farm and attended the first seven grades of school at a one room school near the farm.  Donna finished eighth grade and high school in Gregory.  In high school, she was very active in drama, student government, choir, gymnastics, and was a cheerleader all four years.

She attended college for one year.  She married in 1965 and became a working wife.  Upon Don's graduation from college in 1968, they moved to Waynesboro, Virginia.  Donna became active in several organizations, most notably Junior Woman's Club.  In 1972, Donna's most important goal in life was fulfilled when she became a mother.  Scott became a member of Don and Donna's family and was the love and focus of her life.

In 1979, she and Don opened a pharmacy in Crozet, Virginia and the family relocated there.  Donna managed the pharmacy and gift shop for nineteen years until it was sold in 1998.  It was during this time that somehow she managed to earn her college degree from Eastern Mennonite University by commuting from Crozet to Harrisonburg.

In 2004, the family moved back to Waynesboro.  Donna became active in Waynesboro Augusta Woman's Club, worked with the church food pantry, and joined Hoe and Hope Garden Club among other activities.  She enjoyed scrapbooking and always looked forward to her small group's annual getaway.  Donna had always enjoyed board games and playing cards.  She now had time and she played bridge regularly with 3 or 4 clubs and thoroughly enjoyed the card playing and equally enjoyed new and renewed friendships. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.

In December of 2008, the family was honored when they became a member of an extended family.  Donna became a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to this family.  They have shown us acceptance and true love.  They have been a true blessing in Donna's life.

Donna enjoyed traveling and experiencing new places and cultures.  She was fortunate to experience at least fifteen foreign countries, several ocean cruises, an Alaskan cruise, a European river cruise, and several Colorado ski trips.  She most enjoyed that she was able to visit all fifty states and see the diversity and beauty each had to offer.

Donna passed away peacefully in her sleep while in the care of Hospice of the Shenandoah on November 14, 2022.

Donna talked with Don often of their journey together from rural South Dakota to where they were now.  They worked hard and were truly blessed and thankful for the friends they made and the experiences they had along the way.

Donna is survived by her husband, Don; son, Scott; brother, LeRoy Dummer; sister, Mary Lou Dummer Monfore; her special grandson, Matthew Fowler and his family; and a host of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ronolda Dummer; her in-laws, Dr. Martin and Helen Johnson; brother-in-law, Larry Monfore; and sister-in-law, Janice Dummer.

A service in memory of Donna's life will be held at Main Street United Methodist Church in Waynesboro on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 2:00 pm.  Visitation will be from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.  A brief reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.  A memorial service will be held in South Dakota at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to the food pantry at MSUMC or a charity of your choice.
