Doris Shifflett
Gibson
Mar 9, 1934 — Mar 30, 2023
Ruckersville
Doris Ellen Shifflett Gibson, 89, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 30, 2023.
Doris was born on March 9, 1934, in Batesville, Virginia, 1 of 11 children born to the late Albert and Bessie Shifflett.
Her loving husband, Robert B. "Bobby" Gibson; brothers, Ray, Albert "Junior", Jack, Bob and David; and sisters, Marie, Christine, and "Mary-Lucy" preceded her in death.
Surviving Doris are her son, Michael A Gibson (Diane); her grandson, Brenden M. Gibson (Sarah); two great-grandsons, Andrew R., and Aaron R. Gibson; and two brothers, Freddie and Danny.
Doris and Bobby shared many wonderful years together and raised Mike in Crozet, Virginia. In their post-retirement years, Bobby and Doris enjoyed life "on the other side of the mountain" living in Waynesboro, Virginia.
My mom was a woman of quiet strength with an infectious laugh, an endearing smile, and a thick southern accent. My parents enjoyed many years camping anywhere they could pull their camper; Myrtle Beach was a favorite destination, dancing whenever the opportunity presented itself and gathering with family and friends at the Sportsman's Club in Crozet, sharing food and telling stories.
Mom spent her working years at Acme Visible Records in Crozet, Va.
Mom and Dad met at a dance and spent 59 years two-stepping to their own song. Dad was most certainly waiting for mom at her passing, sitting on a bench, holding her purse. I know they are together again showing everyone what real love looks like. Dad passed on a Thursday, Mom did too. I am pretty sure it was so they could get the camper ready for a long overdue camping weekend.
Pastor David Collyer will conduct a graveside celebration service and interment on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 2 p.m., at Hillsboro Cemetery in Crozet, Va. Family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Doris by remembering her saying "give your old Mom/Grandma a hug" and hug someone special in your life.
McDow Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences may be sent to mcdowfuneralhomeinc.com.
