Dorothy (Dot/Bootie/MeMaw) Estelle Burks Coffey , 95, of Waynesboro, went home to Jesus April 11, 2023.
Mrs. Coffey was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia, September 19, 1927, a daughter of the late Samuel Edward and Ottie Estelle (Carter) Burks.
She was a long-time member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. She retired from American Safety Razor in 1990 after 29 years of service.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Everett H. Coffey, all siblings, and daughters-in-law, Peggy (Hawpe) Coffey and Kimberly (Helmick) Coffey.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons, George (Hank) Coffey (Kitty); Glenn Coffey, Dean Coffey (Fonda Davis); a daughter, Teresa (Coffey) Bryant (Russ); five grandsons Darren Coffey (Rebecca Coates), Kevin Coffey (Eileen), Ryan Hendrix (Courtney), Cole Hendrix (Hailey), Ben Coffey (Morgan Sech); five granddaughters, Sonja O'Donnell (David), Julie Salemi (Eric), Jennifer Farris (Jason), Kailey Crosen (Mark), and Ally Hodge (Troy).
She also leaves behind nine great granddaughters, seven great grandsons with another on the way, 2 great great grandchildren with another on the way, several 'bonus' grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Her family, which was everything to her, is her legacy. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for them.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to her loving caregivers, Caroline Robinson and her daughter, Charline and Rebecca Metzger (during her stay in the Roanoke area). Your care for mom was amazing and we will forever be grateful. Words are inadequate to express our love and appreciation.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Wednesday April 19, 2023, at McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Virginia.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2023, in the McDow Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Bill Bearden.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons Darren Coffey, Kevin Coffey, Ryan Hendrix, Cole Hendrix, Ben Coffey, and great grandson, Adam Miller.
Honorary pallbearers all her other great and great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to St. Marks United Methodist Church, 2316 West Main Street, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
