Edith Mae Harris Simpson, 80, of Waynesboro, entered eternal rest peacefully on Wednesday January 12, 2022.

She was born October 15,1941 to Albert Sidney Harris and Mille Ann Fitch Harris in Nellysford. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her dear-sweet granddaughter Aniyah Blessin' Williams, (siblings) Fred Harris, Thomas Harris, Gladys Harris, Gertrude Harris Turner aka Snook, (nephews) Thomas Harris "Tim", and James Turner "Jimmy", (niece) Glenda Turner.

She will be lovingly remembered by her four children- Lisa Harris Brown (Comacell), Cristal Harris, Glenn Harris, Gladys Simpson Jones (Curtis), nieces - Mille Harris Dixon, Juanita Turner Jackson (Thomas), Linda Turner, Samantha Turner Left (Tim), Ada Harris, nephews- Gene Turner (Renee), Julias Turner. Grandchildren- Timothy (Kyonna), Anthony (Alyssa), Tomika, Antone, Ebony, Latoya, Shaytia, Jon, Gino, Kajuan, Caleb. Great grandchildren - Qur'Ron, Dayvon, Ja'Quis, Keshawn, Ja'Quez, Tyana, Dezirae, Ja'Niece, Nasjae, Ja'Quan, Mikajah, Myron, J'mavien, Amavion, Kamoni, Cameron, Timothy Jr, Jon Jr, Kamiyah; as well as numerous close relatives and friends.

Throughout the years Edith worked in the food services industry, as well as devoted most of her time to being a nanny for many years in the Waynesboro and Charlottesville area. She was very well appreciated by the UVA staff and students while serving them in the snack bar and Newcomb Hall. She loved keeping her grandchildren each summer, traveling to D.C. & MD to visit her brother and family, especially watching Soap Operas ("stories" as she called them), and mysteries. She attended Mt Eagle Baptist Church, Shiloh Baptist Church, and The Seventh Day Adventist. Edith will be remembered for being an extraordinarily strong, hard-working, independent woman. She took care of everyone and had great pride while doing so. Her generosity, and compassion were too great to go unnoticed. She was sure to instill in her family that "it's better to give than to receive", and "you can't take it with you when you're gone".

Around 2007 Edith was diagnosed with dementia which would gradually put a halt to her daily living as we knew it. This was tough to grasp for the family, but her daughter Cristal made the ultimate sacrifice by moving her mom into her home rather than send her to a nursing facility. Many thanks for her devotion and dedication.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the condolences and outpouring of love. A special thanks to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, as well as Edith's caregivers.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Massie Memorial Church of God in Christ.  Interment will immediately follow at Mt. Eagle Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at McDow Funeral Home.
