Elizabeth C. Stephenson, surrounded by the love of her family, passed away April 26, 2025 in Austin, Texas. She was 95 years old.

Born in Augusta County, Virginia, near Waynesboro, she was the fourth daughter of the late Joseph Walter and Bertie Anne Crickenberger. In 1965 Elizabeth moved from Virginia to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she resided with the exception of six years spent in Wilmington, Delaware, and seven years in Austin.  She was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church and was a former member of Barren Ridge Church. She served in various roles at both churches.

Elizabeth put care into everything she did. She had a gracious demeanor and welcoming smile. She is best remembered for her love of and devotion to family, her commitment to her faith, her many kindnesses quietly bestowed upon others, her lovely notes of encouragement, and her delicious dinners.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William Stephenson; an infant daughter, Ellen Stephenson; three sisters, Virginia Early, Waltine Wright and Reba Patterson;  four brothers, Carthon, Harry Earl, Joseph and Ray Crickenberger; and two nieces and ten nephews.

Survivors include two daughters, Gena Tanner (Mark) and Patti Spencer (DeForest); two grandchildren, Scott Spencer (Katie) and Kelly Mathews (Bart); four great grandchildren, Luke and Charlee Spencer, and Lizzy and Kate Mathews; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

A graveside service will be held at Barren Ridge Cemetery at 10:30 on Saturday, June 28th. For those wishing to do so, memorial gifts may be made to Barren Ridge Church, 1790 Barren Ridge Rd., Staunton, VA 24401 or to a charity of one's choice.
