Elizabeth "JoAnn" Fitzgerald, 88 of Elkton, MD, passed away Monday, September 2, 2024 at Abbey Manor Assisted Living, Elkton, MD.

Born in Waynesboro, VA, on May 14, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Frank Victor Truxell and Alva Lee (Chaplin) Truxell.  She was the wife of the late James Franklin Fitzgerald who passed on October 27, 2014.

JoAnn worked in administration for Thiokol prior to her retirement.

She attended Charlestown Missionary Baptist Church, Charlestown, MD, where she was active in Vacation Bible School and Tabitha's Pantry. She was also a member of Old Providence Church in Steels Tavern, VA.  She enjoyed cake decorating, puzzles, and reading especially her Bible.

Survivors include her children: Larry Fitzgerald (Debra), Timothy Fitzgerald (Trisha) all of North East, MD; granddaughter: Jessie Lee Fitzgerald also of North East, MD; step-grandchildren: Brandon Herd (Bre) of Kunkeltown, PA and Kevin Brooks of Delta, PA; and her brother: Charles Eugene Truxell of Waynesboro, VA.

Funeral service in Maryland will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm.

Funeral service in Virginia will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 11:00 am at Old Providence Presbyterian Church, 1005 Spottswood Road, Steeles Tavern, VA, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
