Ellen Moore McCormick Beard of Stuarts Draft, died on April 27, 2023.
She was born December 30, 1933 to the late Raymond Moore McCormick and Margaret Virginia Moore McCormick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Malcolm "Mac" Beard who died February 8, 2023; together they shared over 64 years of marriage.
Surviving family members include: Daughter Gwen Carr and Ronnie Carr of Waynesboro; Daughter Virginia "Ginny" Poynter and husband, Dale Poynter of Waynesboro; grandchildren Michael Poynter, Margaret Carr, and Jeffery Carr and wife Wendy; great grandchildren, Gabe Carr and Nate Carr; and a sister Virginia Engleman. She is also survived by nephews, nieces, and their families: John Forbes (Sophia), Terry Forbes (Shelley), H. Flint Engleman II (Catherine), Paul Floyd (Susan), and Ken Floyd (Christine); Beverly Drell, Sherry Sumerlin (Dan), and Martha Theissen (Tim) as well as friends from throughout her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law Mary Sue and Maynard Hockman; sister and brother-in-law Martha and Van Forbes; brother-in-law, Hensil Engleman as well as an infant sister Carolyn who died before Ellen's birth, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Christine and Curtis Floyd; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ralph Beard and Margaret "Peggy" Beard.
Outside of a short period living in Long Island, New York, Ellen and Mac made their home in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in Harrisonburg and Stuarts Draft. They were founding members of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Ellen made a career in accounting and book-keeping working for Holsum Bakery, Hudson Garden Center, Massanutten Technical Center, Wilson Jewelers, Waynesboro First Presbyterian and Tinkling Spring Presbyterian churches, The Towne Shoppe, and D. Poynter & Company. She also held her real estate license.
Important and valued by Ellen were her faith, and loving her family. She also made delicious potato salad. While her death was unexpected, she is now at peace from the challenges of life following the death of Mac. She will certainly be missed.
A memorial service will be held Sunday April 30 at 3 PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
A graveside service is planned for Tuesday May 2 at 4:00PM at Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to: Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church Food Pantry in Fishersville, VA or to Trinity Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg VA .
