Elsie Mae (Henderson, Thomason, Reid) Frost, 98, of Fishersville, VA passed away peacefully at her home on July 9, 2023.

Funeral service will be Monday, July 17, 2023 with visitation at 1:00 pm, followed by ceremony at 2:00 pm, both at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 521 James Ave in Waynesboro, VA. Graveside ceremony to follow at Timber Ridge ARP Church Cemetery, in Fairfield, VA. Elsie loved all flowers, but was partial to daisies as well as the color pink.

Elsie was born on May 24, 1925 in Isaban, WV to Hugh and Maggie Henderson. She lost her mother at the tender age of five, and she and her two brothers then spent eight years living in the (now historic) Odd Fellows Grand Lodge group home in Elkins, WV. She loved to share many stories from her time there.

In 1941, just as the U.S. was entering World War II, Elsie met and married Army Airman, Glenn Alton Thomason. Together they had their only child, Gaye, in 1942.

After a move to Ohio, Elsie eventually enlisted in the Willoughby – Eastlake School of Nursing, graduating in 1963. Sadly, she was widowed in 1964, and with the untimely passing of her husband she threw herself into her profession. Always proud to be a nurse, the whole of her career was at Lake Hospital West in Willoughby, OH.

She soon met Joseph K. Reid, and they married in 1968. They spent a beautiful 26 years together, during which they relocated to New Port Ritchie, FL, then years later to Stuarts Draft, VA. It was while living in Stuarts Draft that Elsie was sorrowfully widowed again in 1994.

After some time, she met Arland D. Frost while attending church. They married in 1997 and moved to Fishersville. They had a wonderful 17 year marriage filled with traveling, entertaining, and ministering before Elsie was once again widowed in 2014.

Elsie created beauty her entire life. She was a talented quilter, seamstress, and crafter. Every bed in her home was covered in a quilt she had made, and the dining table showed off an intricate crocheted lace tablecloth made by her hands.

She was an amazing gardener who loved her fruit trees, vegetable gardens, and flowers. She dutifully canned her fruits and vegetables, often gifting them.

She was a phenomenal cook, and loved to provide tables full for both friends and her growing family.

She loved clothes and pretty things.

She loved to sing.

She was thoughtful in gift-giving and had difficulty keeping the secret.

She could not wait for a surprise or gift; it was nearly impossible to have an unopened package in her presence.

Elsie was a devout Christian who loved God and her Bible. She often kept prayer requests written down, and she made many generous charitable contributions to multiple ministries. She and her third husband were large contributors to helping plant the foundation for Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, VA.

She loved people and people loved her.

Elsie is survived by her daughter, Glenna Gaye Bailey of Fishersville, VA; Grandchildren, Teresa Geracie of Plymouth, MA, Leah (Greg) Paugh of Dublin, OH, Steve (Nyleen) Bailey of Ravenna, OH, Mark (Crystal) Bailey of Mentor, OH; Great Grandchildren, Jacob (Christen) Campbell, Brittney (Brian) Eck, Stephen Bailey Jr., Alexa (Matthew) Barron, Caleb Rakovec, Drew Rakovec, Ronan Paugh, Dakota Bailey, Daelyn Paugh, Alexandra Bailey, Victoria Bailey; Great Great Grandchildren, Dylan, Brooks, Charlotte, Clara, and Emory. As well as many extended family members, and dear friends who were like family.

Elsie is proceeded in death by her husbands, Glenn Thomason, Joseph Reid, Arland Frost; her brothers, Paul Henderson, Price Henderson; her son-in-law, Jack Bailey; her great granddaughter, Isabella Bailey; her great granddaughter-in-law, Nicol Rakovec.

A sincere thank you to Hospice and Augusta Health Care givers, as well as her in-home care-giver Jazmin, who all took such tender and compassionate care of Elsie in her last few months. Heartfelt appreciation is also given to dear friends and neighbors who loved and tended to Elsie for years, Harold, Sue, Lynn, John, and Marcy.
