Emerson Marvin Pell Sr., 101, of Waynesboro, Virginia passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, closing a long and remarkable life defined by love, kindness, respect, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Born on February 26, 1925 in Glasgow, West Virginia to the late Cloyd and Lucinda Rutledge Pell.

Emerson was preceded in death by his beloved and devoted wife, Patricia Pell, his granddaughter, Amelia Bias; two his son-in-laws, Gary Walker and Ron House. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Emerson grew up rooted in the values that guided him for more than a century—hard work, humility, and deep compassion for others. In 1943 he answered his country’s call serving proudly in the United States Navy during World War II. As an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class, he was stationed in the South Pacific, where his steady hands and skill kept aircraft mission ready during one of the most challenging eras in history. After returning home, Emerson built a long career as an Instrument Fitter and later worked in industrial construction earning the respect of coworkers for his craftsmanship and reliability. He retired with a legacy of precision, pride, and integrity in every job he touched.

He is survived by his loving children; Bruce Pell (Jaynie), Phyllis House, Ruth Walker, Marvin Pell (Pamela); sister, Linda Matics (Raymond); brother, Jack Pell (Lynn); stepsister, Sandy Wolfe (Marshall); grandchildren, Benjamen Bias, Jennifer Bias, Ryan Pell, and Jason Pell—carry forward pieces of his humor, wisdom, and gentle nature. Emerson was blessed with nine great grandchildren; Camberli, Benjamen Jr., Lana, Logan, Easton, Kali, Nicholas, Ethan and Claire; five step-great grandchildren; Dalton, Derek, Abigail, Reagan, and Zane. He also leaves behind his good friend Archie, who was always there to help him, share companionship, and take him on rides—friendship that Emerson deeply cherished.

Emerson lived his life with kindness, care, and respect for everyone he met. In his final years, he came to know the Lord, finding peace, comfort, and hope in his faith. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Veteran’s Administration Home Care, Shenandoah Hospice, and Legacy Hospice at Journey’s Crossing Assisted Living for their kindness, compassion, and wonderful care. Their support brought comfort and dignity to Emerson’s final chapter.

Across 101 years, Emerson witnessed a world transformed, yet he remained steadfast—rooted in family, guided by duty, and grateful for the simple blessings of everyday life. His stories, his laughter, and his gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His life was long, full, and well lived. His legacy endures in the hands he held, the work he completed, and the family he cherished.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday July 30, 2026 at McDow Funeral Home.

A funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM on Friday July 31, 2026 at McDow Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Richard Owen. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Cemetery with Military Honors by The U.S. Navy.
