Obituary

Ernestine Marie Frye Moomaw, 89, of Waynesboro, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024 at Augusta Health in Fishersville, Virginia.

Ernestine was born March 2, 1935, in Mt. Jackson, Virginia, daughter of the late Ernest E. Frye and Madge M. Allen Frye. On November 10, 1955, she married J. Dwight Moomaw, who survives her. They were soon to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary.

Ernestine was a 1953 graduate of Triplett High School in Mt. Jackson. She loved being a wife and mother, but also enjoyed part-time work in the pediatrician's office of Dr. William Kappes. She was always looking for a reason to hold a baby. She was a long-time member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and loved the many Tuesdays that she spent at a local bank with others, helping to count the offerings from the prior Sunday, in addition to her other volunteer activities with the church and schools.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Karl Eugene, three sisters, Mary F. Grim and husband Robert, Reba S. Frye, Narveda J. Frye; three brothers, J. William Frye and wife Beatrice, Ralph E. Frye and wife Joan, and Mervin Frye.
In addition to her husband, Ernestine is survived by a son, Kevin M. Moomaw and wife Mary; daughter Kara Beth M. Glover and husband David; brother, John M. Frye and wife Marie; grandchildren Andrew Moomaw (Allie), Bethanie Glover (Raven), and Shane Moomaw (Derek); great grandsons Nolan, Cooper, and Brooks Moomaw; and several nieces and nephews.  Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the lights of her life, and she cared for them deeply.

A graveside service will be held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Pastor Paul H. Pingel will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 South Wayne Avenue, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980.
