Fontaine Anderson Fox passed away on September 20, 2026, at the age of 102 years. She had been a resident of Lakewood Manor, a Baptist Retirement Community in Richmond, Virginia since 2012.

Fontaine was born on October 13, 1923, in Nelson County, VA, the daughter of the late Jeter Hamilton Anderson and Edith Critzer Anderson.

She received a 2-year graduate degree in pre-nursing from Madison College (now JMU).  In 1945, she graduated from the University of Virginia School of Nursing.  Fontaine was a member of the UVA Thomas Jefferson Society.

During World War II, she was a U.S. Cadet Nurse.  At the end of the war, she joined the Veteran's Administration and was employed at Lake City Florida and McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond, VA

She married George Wilbur Fox, Sr. on October 18, 1947 and moved to Waynesboro, VA where she worked for Associated Physicians for 42 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, her sister Nettie Jane Anderson Hamric, niece Jane Fontaine Anderson Simmons, a brother, Dr. James Anderson, sister-in-law Marjorie Anderson.

She is survived by a son, George W. Fox, Jr (Susan) of Richmond, VA, three grandchildren, Stephen Fox (Linda) of Los Angeles, Mason Fox (Taylor) of Richmond, Allison Fox Scarborough (Benjamin) of Richmond; four great grandchildren, Reece Brown, Henley Fox, Emerson Scarborough, Maverick Fox; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Waynesboro, VA on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with a reception following.
