Obituary

Frances Marie Craig, 88, of Grottoes, Virginia, went to meet her Lord on July 24, 2026.

Born in Stanley, Virginia, Frances was the cherished daughter of the late Frank and Edith Freeze. She dedicated many years of service to Hollister, where she eventually retired. In her earlier years, Frances and her beloved husband found great joy in open-road adventures on their motorcycle and camping along the river. Above all, she treasured spending time with her family, especially making memories on trips to the beach together.

Frances was preceded in death by her late husband, Eugene Ray Craig; her daughter, Linda McPeak; four brothers, Raymond Freeze, Woody Freeze, Junior Freeze, and Elmer Campbell; and two sisters, Ethlene Bell and Juanita Taylor; her grandson, Wesley.

She leaves behind a loving family to honor her memory, including her daughters, Carolyn Sue Miller and her husband Ronnie, and Deborah Herron and MG Herron, her step-son Scotty Craig and wife. She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren: Emily Wright and her husband Tom, Casey Huffman, John Herron and his wife Katrina, Crystal Hill and her husband Bruce, and Kristina Arguelles and her husband Eddie. Her legacy continues through her six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express a deeply heartfelt thank you to her niece, RuthAnn Oscar, for faithfully visiting every week and loving Frances with a true agape love. They also extend sincere gratitude to the staff at Augusta Nursing for their compassionate care over the last three years during her final stages of dementia.

A funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of McDow Funeral Home, 1701 West Main St, Waynesboro at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Eddie Hooke will be officiating.
