Obituary

Gail Marie (Farrell) Saunders, 82, of Gordonsville, Virginia passed away on Tuesday April 28th, 2026 at Louisa Health and Rehabilitation Center in Louisa, Virginia.

Gail was born on April 9th, 1944 on Island Pond, Vermont to the late Thomas H. and the late Doris Mary (O'Keefe) Farrell and is predeceased by her husband Hallie Clark Saunders; youngest son, Andrew Albertus Saunders. Gail and Clark were married on January 22nd, 1967.

Gail was a devoted wife and mother. When her sons no longer lived with her, Gail would fill her pockets with kitty treats and walk her neighborhood in Staunton feeding all the cats she found. She eventually moved to Gordonsville to live with her son Philip and his wife Amy. When her health declined she moved to Louisa Health and Rehab. She enjoyed her time there making many new friends and participating in activities such as Bingo and movie nights. Gail was a social butterfly and often referred to her nurses as "my best friends".

Gail is survived by a son Philip Clark Saunders and his wife Amy.

Gail will not only be missed by her surviving family but the residents and staff at Louisa Health and Rehab.

A visitation will be held 7 to 8 pm Tuesday May 5, 2026 at McDow Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday May 6, 2026 at Augusta Memorial Park officiated by Pastor Terry Jewell. There will be no repast.

The family asks that instead of flowers that donations be made to local animal shelters. Gail had a special place in her heart for cats.
