GREGORY MELVIN HUMPHRIES

Greg Humphries of Waynesboro, VA, departed this earth and entered his heavenly home on August 19, 2026. He was born in Staunton, VA on February 5, 1934, the son of Wilbur Melvin and Helen Davis Humphries.

Greg’s foremost desire was to assist others with a walk of faith in Christ. It was December 9, 1979, when he experienced a “road-to-Damascus” revelation while attending church services, marking his spiritual rebirth and the beginning of a life dedicated to following the Lord. He applied his talents to developing many Christian ministries, including: New Covenant Fellowship, Linked in Christ Foundation, Christian Heritage Center, Christian History Society of America, Past Words Publications, Useful Saints Society, Common Ground Meeting House, and The Greg Humphries Christian Library at Christ Central Ministries (West Columbia, SC). Additionally, Greg treasured an affiliation with his great-grandfather’s church: Mountain Valley Church in Rich Patch, VA.

Greg’s education included graduation from Waynesboro High School and continued at Washington and Lee College (now University), where he majored in psychology as part of the Class of 1955. During his senior year in college, he married his sweetheart, Nancy Coiner, who would be his lifelong partner and support through his many endeavors.

Greg was the owner of Fenco, Inc. in Staunton, VA (established in 1978). Former occupations include President of Horizons, Inc. (Newton, NC), Vice President of Marketing Paradigm Design, Inc. (Waynesboro, VA), Owner of Lawrenceville Furniture (Lawrenceville, VA), Vice President & Sales Manager of Basic-Witz Furniture (Waynesboro, VA), Co-owner of Impressive Advertising & Printing (Waynesboro, VA), and Plant Manager of The Lexington Gazette (Lexington, VA).

Reflecting on his life, Greg wrote the following on Feb. 27, 2013 “[This] info and bio is in no way meant to suggest any credit due me for all that took place during my life. Neither is it presented to suggest a program for anybody’s life. The fact is: I never had a plan. Was it not for my Gracious Lord, a wonderful wife, good sons, and a few friends, it would have been a disaster.”

He enjoyed collecting rare Bibles and Christian books. Other interests included arrowhead hunting, refurbishing antique furniture, hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, researching family genealogy, studying historical events, and being a “gentleman” farmer at Common Grounds orchard in Fishersville, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Melvin Humphries and Helen Davis Humphries; his son, David-Ashton Humphries; and his grandson-in-law Jason Williams.

Greg is survived by his wife of 72 years, Nancy Coiner Humphries; his sons, Timothy Humphries and wife Melanie Fleagle Humphries, Bryan Humphries and wife Melonie Reaves Humphries; his grandchildren, Kimberly Humphries Mumbauer and husband Tim Mumbauer, Hillary Humphries, Heather Humphries Hamilton and husband Jerry “Trey” Hamilton, Christan Humphries Mahieu and husband Yoann Mahieu, Gregory-Lee Humphries and wife Anna Matthews Humphries; his great-grandchildren, Walker Hostetter and wife Danni Armstrong Hostetter, Avery Williams, Gavin Williams, Ruben Mahieu, Kayla Mahieu, Henry Humphries, Oliver Humphries, Isla Humphries; his sister Rebecca “Beckie” Humphries Fitzgerald and husband Michael Fitzgerald; his nieces, Rachel Fitzgerald Pagett, Colleen Fitzgerald; and his grandnieces and grandnephew, Kelsey Pagett, Nathan Pagett, Jade Fitzgerald.

Greg was a wise and loving pillar to his family - witty, inventive, and hardworking. He lived by faith, steadfast conviction, and a deep love for the Lord. His faith was ever-present and evident in his desire to introduce others to Jesus Christ and to share with them the hope he had found in Him. He was never afraid to stand firmly and unapologetically by his values and beliefs. For his loved ones, his life and works remain an enduring example and inspiration.

Greg will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro, VA. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
