Helen Burzynski Craig of Shenandoah Nursing Home, formerly Cricket Rd., Staunton, died Thursday morning October 17, 2013.
Mrs. Craig had suffered declining health in recent years.
She was born February 18, 1926 in Wheeling, West Virginia, daughter of the late Anthony Burzynski and Mildred Bonsall.
Helen had been employed in the service department at Montgomery Ward in Staunton during the 1980's, selling service contracts.
On March 9, 1945, she married Preston C. Craig who predeceased her.
Helen was a long time loyal and active member of Zion Lutheran Church near Waynesboro, being a member for nearly 60 years. During this period she had served on church council, taught Sunday school, was a choir member and served on numerous other committees and functions. She is fondly remembered by her congregation for her famous Helen Craig pound cakes.
She is survived by two children, Carolyn Lilly of Weyers Cave and James Craig & wife Sharon of Waynesboro; one granddaughter, Lisa Lilly of Weyers Cave; one brother, Anthony in Austin Texas; and one sister, Rose in Los Angeles, California; sisters in law: Margaret Hunter and Peggy Snyder of Staunton, Ruth Craig & Shirley Craig of Waynesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews; special friends: Isabel Fitzgerald, Wayne & Mary Ann Hite, Carol & Jr. Davis, Shelby Bistel, Brenda Shuey, Ruby Kessler, Freda Kessler, and Edith Kirby.
Funeral services will be conducted at Zion Lutheran Church, near Waynesboro, at 2:00 PM Monday October 21, 2013 by the Rev. James Pence. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be: Wayne Hite, Charlie Wymer, Clinton Shuey, Earl Miller, Billy Kessler and Deen Boe.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Henry Swisher, Bill Kirkendal, Jasper Davis Jr., Patrick Hite, Terry Kirby and Ray Bistel.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the church fellowship hall.
