Obituary

Hollis Jerome "Jerry" Hanback, 86, a resident of the Summit Square Retirement Community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 surrounded by his loving family while his wife Dollie was holding his hand.

He was born April 16, 1936 in Staunton, VA, a son of the late Hollis Preston Hanback and Margaret McClung Davis Hanback.

Jerry grew up in the Fishersville area and graduated from Wilson Memorial High School. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea serving as an Armored Track Vehicle mechanic and afterwards worked and retired from DuPont.

He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Dollie H. Hanback; and children: Gina Hanback (and son, Isaac), Linda Moyer (Bill), Fred Garris (Sherrie), Donald Garris (Debbie), and Lisa Adams (Tommy); 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and sister, Charlene Sutton.

A funeral service celebrating Jerry's life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 22, 2023 in the chapel of McDow Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor David Wolfe. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park, with military honors rendered by the U.S. National Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Memory Care Unit of Summit Square, 501 Oak Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
