HORACE EDWARD CUMBO, 88, of Alexandria, Virginia, went to be with the Lord, whom he loved and served, on February 6, 2022.  He was born in Abington, Virginia on October 23, 1933 to the late William Milton and Emma Frances Davis Cumbo.  He was the baby of thirteen children. He had seven brothers and six sisters, Ernest, Hazel, Myrtle, Vernie, Garnett, Polly, Geneva, Carl, Fred, Ann, Sherman and Jay. All of his brothers and sisters preceded him in death.  He was married for 63 years on January 17 ^th to his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Hart Cumbo who will miss him beyond words.  In July 2021, they left their home in Alexandria to relocate in Waynesboro, Virginia to live with their youngest daughter.

He honorably served in the United States Air Force in his early 20's.  He was later employed by AB&W Bus Company where he drove a bus with his brother, James "Jay" W. Cumbo.  Upon leaving there he worked selling insurance at Southwestern Life Insurance Company.  He and Barbara worked together there and made many lifelong friends.  His most fulfilling job came when he started his own business called Rite Way Heating & Air Conditioning Company.  He retired and sold his business in 2002.

In addition to his precious wife, he is survived by daughters, Gail Cloyd (Robbie) of Mt. Jackson, Virginia, Dana Mutscheller (David) and Deborah Rumph (Eric), both formerly from Alexandria, Virginia now residing in Waynesboro, Virginia.  His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Luis Perez (Jennifer), Megan Mutscheller, Jesse Cloyd, Abbey Rumph, Joseph Mutscheller, Jacob Rumph, Daniel Cloyd (Tracy) and David Cloyd (Lucy).  He was blessed with great-grandchildren, Keeyarra, Triston, Tavion, Kiaya, Grace, Ava, Christiana and Isaac.

He served the Lord at Reality Gospel Church in Alexandria and later First Assembly of God of Alexandria.  His Godly life and loving tender heart were evident to those lives he touched.  He had a Christ-like heart of gold that showed kindness to all he encountered.  He will be remembered as a man who never spoke ill will of anyone and always had a sweet, genuine smile. We want to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hospice who have assisted us in his care the last two years.

The celebration of his wonderful life will be held on February 9, 2022 at 12:00 noon at McDow Funeral Home at 1701 West Main Street, Waynesboro, Virginia with the Rev. Roger Ewing officiating. Viewing will be 10:00-12:00 pm prior to the service.  After the service, the family will receive family and friends at the Rumphs' residence, 53 Old White Bridge Road, Waynesboro, Virginia.  Burial will follow on February 11, 2022 at 11:00 am at Mt. Comfort Cemetery in the Stratford section in Alexandria, Virginia.  The graveside memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Wesley Johnson.
