James Michael Moore (Jim) died on March 18, 2026 at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia after a brief illness.
At the time of his death, Jim was survived by his mother, Nancy Altfather Moore Garber, his brothers, William B. Moore, Jr (Tina) and Kenneth D. Moore. He was also survived by his cousin, Joanne MacDonald (Jim), and by his nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William B. Moore and his step-father, Cleatis F. Garber. His mother, Nancy Garber, died on April 28, 2026.
Jim was born on January 10, 1962 in Fairfax, Virginia and grew up in Falls Church, Virginia. He graduated from George Mason Junior-Senior High School in 1980, and joined the US Marine Corps shortly after graduation. He served most of his time in the Marine Corps in Yuma, Arizona as a photographer. After leaving the Marine Corps, he enrolled at the University of Florida where he received both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in accounting. He pursued a career in telecommunications.
Jim was a talented photographer, chef and musician, playing drums with a local band when living in Atlanta. He loved his family, his friends, and his dogs. He was passionate about rescuing dogs that needed homes, particularly pitbulls.
Jim’s ashes were interred with his mother when she was laid to rest on May 1, 2026 in the cemetery of the Middle River Church of the Brethren, New Hope, Virginia. Arrangements were handled by McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Virginia.
