Jay Norris Whitesell, 83, passed away at home on May 12, 2021.
He was born on November 9, 1937 in Waynesboro, son of the late Basiel Alexander Whitesell and Brownie (Myers) Whitesell.
Jay was well known as an athlete at Waynesboro High School and was inducted in the WHS Hall of Fame. He played football at Virginia Tech. In later years, he enjoyed golf. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, including gardening, boating, fishing and hunting. He was the Huntmaster of the Bath County Buck Busters.
As President of Myers & Whitesell Electrical Contractors , he continued, with his brother, the company that his father and grandfather began in 1945. His sons and a grandson continue the family business.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jane Canada Whitesell; children and spouses, Denise Cole and husband Robert, Robert and wife Kathy, Kevin and wife Amanda; grandchildren Alexa (Zack) Jones, Andrew Cole, Alex (Becca) Whitesell, Kelly Whitesell, Madison Whitesell, Cassie Whitesell; and first expected great-grandchild. Sister, Denise Valz, brother Gerald Whitesell and wife Frances; a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 17, 2021 at First Baptist Church, Waynesboro, conducted by pastor Barett Owen. Due to Covid restrictions, all who plan to attend will be required to wear face masks and practice social distancing. The family will receive friends after the service. Burial will be private.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions in his name to the Alzheimers Association to help in the fight against dementia.
