Jean C. Buchanan, 82, of Waynesboro, died Friday, January 21, 2011 at Envoy of Staunton.
She was born June 13, 1928 in Charlottesville, a daughter of James Russell and Cora Edith Scott Carter.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro, and AARP chapter #3972. Growing up in Nelson County, she attended Rockfish Valley High School. On Sept 1, 1977 she retired from DuPont with 32 years of service.
Her hobbies included bowling, reading, wordfind puzzlebooks, talking on the telephone with friends & neighbors, and country music.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Buchanan in 2003; one sister, Martha Carter Scott; 3 brothers, Charles, Walter, and Robert Carter; and one grandson, Robert Bunch.
Surviving are 3 step-daughters, Shirley Campbell, Barbara Smith, and Brenda Stoner; one sister, Norma Mae Earhart and husband, Sam; 2 sisters-in-law, Gay Carter and Ann Carter; 3 grandchildren, Michael and Scott Fields, and Kim Bunch; 2 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends Terry Francis, Ann Kennedy, Vera Bell, and country singer Margo Smith.
A service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 24, 2011, at McDow Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
The family receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday at McDow Funeral Home.
