Jeanne Elaine Clewell Ford, of Waynesboro, Virginia, died March 12, 2022 at the Summit Square Retirement Community. She was deeply loved as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
The daughter of William and Pauline Clewell, Mrs. Ford was born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania on May 18, 1929. She graduated from Nesbitt Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Kingston, Pennsylvania in 1951 as a registered nurse and began her career in private duty nursing. In 1951, she married Charles A. Ford and in 1956, they moved to Waynesboro, Virginia.
Living in Waynesboro for over 65 years, Mrs. Ford was active in the Red Cross, was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary in charge of the junior volunteers and served on the Board of Trustees of the Waynesboro Community Hospital. She was a long-time member of both the Main Street United Methodist Church and the Waynesboro Country Club. She was an avid golfer but also enjoyed skiing, bowling, bridge, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren and family. In 2010, Mrs. Ford moved to Summit Square where she enjoyed and valued the companionship of both old and new friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles A. Ford and her brother Douglas B. Clewell. Survivors include her son, Dr. Corey C. Ford and wife, Dr. Sally L. Harris of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Karen F. Hawbaker and husband Dennis of Kingsport, TN; four grandchildren, Dr. Kirsten L. Hawbaker-Skeens and husband Tyler of Kingsport; Erin L. Vance and husband Kyle of Fall Branch, TN; Charles (Chad) R. Ford and wife Cassandra of Albuquerque; and Tia Thuy Hong Ford of Albuquerque; one sister- in- law, Grace Clewell of Ridgefield, CT; special family member Carolyn Moore Ford of Staunton, VA, and several nieces and nephews. She is missed by all.
In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, the family suggests donations to The Wayne Theater, P.O. Box 1821, Waynesboro VA 22980 or Summit Square Retirement Community, 501 Oak Ave. Waynesboro, VA 22980. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Summit Square Retirement Community. Burial at Ridgeview Cemetery will be private.
