Joe Richard Armentrout, age 93, of Fishersville, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 25, 2021.
Born October 1, 1928 in Clifton Forge, VA, he was a son of the late Esry Allen Armentrout and Grace Simmons Armentrout and was the youngest of five children. Joe married Jean Ray Craft in 1949 and the two shared 52 years of marriage until her death in 2001. Joe was the last living member of his immediate family.
Joe was a member of Fishersville United Methodist Church.
Joe worked for the U.S. government in Washington, D.C. for many years. He retired in 1992 after 33 years of service from General Electric/Genicom in Waynesboro.
He was an avid reader of his bible and of U.S. History. He was most definitely a UVA fan. For many years he enjoyed playing golf, camping, and gardening.
Surviving are his eldest son, Tim Armentrout (and wife Ann) of Fishersville; daughters, Lyssa Myers (and fiancé Jeff Snead) of Stuarts Draft and Tracy Pugh (and husband Greg Pugh) of Afton. Preceding him in death was a son, Phillip of Madison, WI and a daughter, Criste of Erie, CO. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Erin Armentrout of Fishersville, Emily Bailey of Troutville, Kristin Brooks of Afton, Kevin Ross of Erie, CO, P.J. Armentrout, Christian Armentrout, and Emerald Armentrout, all of Janesville, WI; many great grandchildren; a special great-great grandchild; a special niece, Pamela Armentrout McPhaul of Red Springs, NC; and many other nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 pm. on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Fishersville United Methodist Church, 1600 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville, VA. Rev. Peter Choi will be officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fishersville United Methodist Church or the Waynesboro Area Refuge Ministry (WARM), 1035 Fairfax Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
