John Phillip Fretwell, 82, born September 30,1943 of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, passed away Friday, February 20, 2026, at home surrounded by loved ones.

He proudly served 6 years in the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate aboard the USS Little Rock and retired as a textile machinist at Wayne - Tex Waynesboro VA.

He was devoted to his Mountain View Church family and his beloved family at Commonwealth Veterinarian Clinic in Fishersville VA, where he was a trusted handyman. He enjoyed working his vegetable garden (which he loved sharing the harvest of), loved planting flowers, and thoughtfully landscaping his yard.

He was the son of Harold and Louise Fretwell of Stuarts Draft va. Preceded in death by his parents, his brothers James (bunk) Houston Fretwell, Jeffrey Layne Fretwell, and his nephew Jason Edward Fretwell.

He is survived by two sons Terry and Tracy, his daughter Sherry, a granddaughter Nicole (Travis), two great-grandchildren Owen and Emry, his sister Connie wood, several nieces and nephews, and lots of very special friends. He was a devoted father, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend and a follower of Jesus Christ.

A funeral service will be held on February 25, 2026 at Mountain View Church 55 Love Rd Lyndhurst, VA 22952 with visiting hour at 10am,service at 11am followed by military rites at the graveside at the church cemetery with a fellowship lunch at 12pm.
