Obituary

John Francis Jahoda, 88, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2023 at Stuart's Draft Christian Community in Stuarts Draft, VA, where he was loved and doted on by the wonderful staff.

John was born in Great Neck, New York on June 5, 1934 to a musical, fun-loving Bohemian family of five. Growing up, John served as an alter boy at his church, played all sports and loved his country, especially the beach.  John continued to play his favorite sport, tennis, and played competitively into his early 70's.   During his remarkable life, he fulfilled his boyhood dreams of attending the University of Notre Dame and becoming a U.S. Marine.  Despite tragically losing his father at the start of his Freshman year at Notre Dame, John returned and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Finance.  After college graduation, he went on to become a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.  Shortly after his honorable discharge from service, John began to build his successful career as a Securities Trader working on Wall Street.

He married an extraordinary woman who had just immigrated to the United States from Hungary in 1956.  Together they lived in Huntington, New York and raised four children.  He enjoyed an early retirement in Wintergreen, VA, and spent much of his time playing tennis, traveling with his wife and enjoying family time.  John settled in Waynesboro, VA at Summit Square Retirement Community, where he had many dear friends who loved him.

He is survived by his children, Lisa Jahoda Jackson and son-in-law, Chris Jackson, John Francis Jahoda, Jr. And daughter-in-law, Karen Jahoda, and Ava Jahoda; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister Mary Ann Jahoda Alcuri.  He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katalin Boda Jahoda, son Robert Francis Jahoda, sister Joan Rado Jahoda, grandson Emanuel G. Fitzgerald, Jr. And his parents.
