John Wesley Wingfield of 229 Stonewall Drive, Waynesboro, VA, passed away on November 12, 2023.  He was a son of Charles Henry and Mary Elizabeth Childress Wingfield.  He was born on February 23, 1926 in Lynchburg, VA.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, and his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth (Libby) Duncan Wingfield.

Surviving are his daughter, Linda Wingfield Ritchie of Broadway and son, Randy (Sharon) of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Kyle Ritchie (Tammy) of Timberville, Jenna Ritchie Dawson (Frederick) of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and Rachel Hammer Coy (Mandy) of Dundee, Michigan; five great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

John graduated from E.C. Glass High School, Lynchburg (1948) and from the University of Virginia (1961) School of Electrical Engineering.  He was a proud Marine Corps veteran Sergeant of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater and the Korean War (stateside).  He was also a member of the Waynesboro Masonic Lodge, Lee Lodge #209.

Prior to moving his family to Waynesboro in 1965, he was a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg and became a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro, where he served as a Deacon, Elder, Sunday School teacher and served on various committees.   John was a dedicated master of many projects and willingly shared his experiences.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro, VA.
