Joyce K. Gibson

Joyce K. Gibson, 85, of Waynesboro, left this world peacefully on June 23, 2026, just four days shy of her 86 th birthday. Born on June 27, 1940 in Waynesboro, Virginia, Joyce was the daughter of Franklin Calvin Key and Nancy Hunt Key, both of whom preceded her in death.

Joyce was a devoted wife, a beloved sister and a cherished aunt who will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lewis L. Gibson, Jr. with whom she shared a beautiful marriage that began on January 27, 1990.

Joyce’s professional journey was marked by 23 years of service as a Human Resource officer at First Virginia Bank of Augusta, retiring in 2001. As a devoted member of Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren, Joyce was deeply committed to her faith and enjoyed her church activities.

Joyce is survived by her loving sisters, Mary K. Wright (William “Gus” Wright) and June K. Utt (Jerry Utt), her nephew, William David Wright and his wife Kim, her niece, Samantha W. Previs and her husband Greg and great-nieces and nephews, who brought her immeasurable joy.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026 at Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren located at 7190 Barren Ridge Road in Staunton, Virginia. The family will receive friends for visitation at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m before the service. A graveside service will follow at Hermitage Presbyterian Church in Fishersville, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Waynesboro First Aid crew for their service and dedication of taking care of Mrs. Gibson over the last year.
