Joyce (Miller) Stevens Mejia went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, August 6, 2026 at the University of Virginia Hospital with family by her side.
She was born June 7, 1943 in Waynesboro, VA, to the late John Scott Miller and Dolly Ann (Phillips) Miller.
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her first husband, Elam G. Stevens, a son, Brian Scott Stevens and sisters Mildred Carwile, Jean Kennedy and Ruth Kennedy.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years Juan Mejia, Jr., two sons, Jeff Stevens (Teresa), Tracy Stevens (Jackie) and a bonus daughter Juana Mejia. Thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two more on the way, a brother William Miller (Margo), and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Joyce was a faithful member of Greater Grace Baptist Church in Afton, VA. She loved God and served in many ways throughout the years, including work with the children’s Bible club, AWANA, and the Bethlehem project.
She retired from the University of Virginia with 30 years of service, working primarily in the Math department.
Joyce loved her family deeply, and her home was the heart of countless cherished gatherings for Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. She welcomed everyone with open arms and was especially known for her delicious peanut butter pies and homemade macaroni and cheese, which became beloved family traditions that will be fondly remembered for years to come.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was truly a special lady and will be remembered for her loving heart, putting others first and her unconditional love for her God, family and friends.
A special thank you to Juana Mejia and beloved fur baby, Nikee, for the support they provided to Joyce and Juan throughout this past year.
A service will be held at McDow Funeral Home, 1701 West Main St. Waynesboro, VA 22980, Friday, August 14th at 10:30 am with visitation one hour before at 9:30 am.
Internment will immediately follow the service at Augusta Memorial Park, 1775 Old Goose Creek Rd, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
