Obituary

Joyce Ann Orman, 74, of Afton, VA was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She passed away peacefully on December 4, 2021 with her devoted husband, Harold "Junior" Orman by her side. For more than 10 years, he had lovingly cared for Joyce as she courageously battled a neurodegenerative disease –his care was simply one testament of many they shared during their marriage of 57 years.

Born on June 10, 1947 in Deerfield, VA, Joyce was the daughter of the late John and Mary Adkins Graham. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Martin Graham, Elbert Graham, John Graham Jr., and William Graham; and sister, Violet Graham Snider.

Joyce will forever be held in the hearts of her husband, Harold, and son, John Orman and wife Lisa of Wilson, NC; son, Jeffrey Orman and wife, Jennifer of Shenandoah, VA; and daughter, Jennifer Orman McGarry and husband, Brett of Shipman, VA.  She leaves behind her greatest legacy, her grandchildren, Kalin, Kolbi and Blayz McGarry; and Avrey Orman. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Roger Graham, and sister, Mary "Ludy" Stroop and husband, Gary. She will be dearly missed by all of her other family and friends.

Joyce was beautiful, kind, thoughtful and fun-loving. She was adored by her children and had special relationships with each one. She was not only devout in, but also happily shared, her faith and love of Christ. For years, she took delight in being involved in children's ministry.  Joyce cherished her church family at SherLynd Baptist Church where she was a member. She was a wonderful cook as many will remember the delicious meals she prepared while working at Rodes Farm Inn. Joyce kept a beautifully decorated and clean home and with those talents had her own housecleaning business for many years. Joyce also enjoyed shopping and seemingly had endless energy that outlasted her shopping companions. Her most favorite activity, however, was spending time with and doting on her grandchildren whom she treasured and loved beyond measure.

Family, friends and others whose lives Joyce touched are invited to attend her Funeral Service at SherLynd Baptist Church in Lyndhurst, VA on Saturday, December 11 at 2pm with a reception at SherLynd after the burial. Burial will immediately follow the service at Hebron Baptist Church in Afton, VA. Arrangements are being handled by McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro, VA.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to staff of the Hospice of the Piedmont -Center for Acute Hospice Care for their compassionate and respectful care of Joyce. Additionally, the family is grateful for all of the support shown by their church family.
