Joyce Elaine Howell Worontzoff, 76, of Waynesboro, VA died January 11, 2020, at her home in the loving arms of her husband, Edward Nicolas Worontzoff. Joy was born on June 5, 1943, in Mt. Pleasant, PA and was the daughter of the late Robert Marshall Howell, Sr. and Alma Olga Maass Howell.
Joy was raised in Elmont, NY with her siblings until the untimely death of her parents when she was a teen. The Cauchi family lovingly stepped in and finished raising her to adulthood in Elmont, NY. There Joy met and married the love of her life, Edward Nicolas Worontzoff (her Eddie) on November 11, 1967. Together they raised two daughters, Kimberly and Christine, in Waynesboro, VA. Joy worked as a Junior Rockette, dental hygienist, pre-school teacher, and homemaker. Her most cherished and important work was as a loving wife, mother and as "Grammie." Prior to her decline she was active as a member of the congregation and of the choir at Zion Lutheran Church. She was also the loving "mother" of her beloved dogs Greta, Heidi, Ginger, and Abby.
Joy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Edward Nicolas Worontzoff, daughter Kimberly Joy Worontzoff Paladino and husband Gaetano Vincent, daughter Christine Elaine Worontzoff and husband Robert Joseph Holtmann III, and her three precious granddaughters, Justine Elaine, Megaen Catherine and Olivia Dominica Paladino. In addition to her immediate family she is survived by her sister Jeannette H. Potts of Florida, her brother Theodore Howell and wife, Rebecca, of North Carolina, brothers-in-law Nicolas Worontzoff and wife, Joan, Walter Worontzoff and wife Sue, and sister-in-law Anita Worontzoff Penino, all of New York. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Joy was preceded in death by her beloved brother Robert Marshall Howell, Jr., brother-in-law Dr. Robert J. Potts, and nephew Christopher P. Howell.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 297 Zion Church Road, Waynesboro, VA with Rev. Dr. Wesley Smith, II officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church social hall for refreshments.
