Kathleen (Kay) Ann Snead, widow of Wallace Snead, went to be with her lord Friday, November 12, 2021 in Fishersville, Virginia.

She was born in the Village of Brattleboro, Vermont on January 13, 1924 to Stewart and Josephine (Garrity) Wheelden.

Kay was a member of St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church in Waynesboro. She enlisted in the Women's Army Corps on January of 1941 and became a Private First Class. She served during World War II, earning the American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. She worked as a Supply Clerk where she issued radio equipment to pilots.  She checked test papers (coded) on words per minute, filed all supply forms and correspondence, typed requisitions, tallied ins and outs, compiled statements of charge.  She classified clothing as A,B, or C, acted as Supply Sgt for one month, and worked as a cashier in the commissary for two weeks.  Kay served as a Clerk General and was the final checker on enlisted men's discharge certificates before they were typed.  She also worked in a Civilian Conversion position as a Stock Clerk II. Kay later worked at Morton's Frozen Food as a Laboratory Supervisor.

Besides her parents, Kay is predeceased by two brothers, Sgt. Stuart Wheelden, Jr. who gave his life at the battle of Luzon in the Philippines,and John Wheelden; and two sisters, Margart Behilo and Mary Ann Wood.

Surviving her are daughter, Caroline Redifer (Timothy); grandchildren, Scott Shifflette, Kathleen McBee (Shane) and Joseph Leggette; great grandchildren, Steven Shifflette, Jessica Shifflette, Garret McBee and Ciercy McBee (fiancé Lance Corporal Jackson Wey); great-great grandchild, Eli Shifflette; and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Shenandoah House hospice nurse Kim and the VA nurse Wendy for the wonderful care given to their mom.

They also want to thank special friends Bruce and Mary Dennis and Bernice Archambeault.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 19, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Interment will immediately follow in Augusta Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at McDow Funeral Home.
