Lena Phyllis (Swisher) Summers, 97, widow of Orville F. Summers, died on August 5, 2022 at Waynesboro Manor in Waynesboro, Virginia.

She was born on July 13, 1925, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late George Henry and Carrie Lena (Arehart) Swisher.

Phyllis was first employed by Crompton in Waynesboro and then was employed by American Safety Razor until she retired.  She was a founding member of Wayne Hills United Methodist Church and more recently became a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.  She worshiped for many years without missing a single Sunday.  Phyllis enjoyed travel, sewing, crocheting, and cooking.  The hot rolls she baked were fought over at church suppers.

She was a loving wife, aunt, and grandmother.  Surviving to cherish her memory are her brother, Hugh Swisher (Nancy); her granddaughter, Cheryl Summers (Lance); and a special niece,

Alice Margene Swisher.  She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and even great grand nieces and nephews.

Her family cannot express the depth of their appreciation for the care and love given to Phyllis at Waynesboro Manor.  The family also extends their gratitude to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for their care and loving support.

A celebration of her life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at McDow Funeral Home.  Rev. Bill Bearden will be officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour before the service.  Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
