Lewis "Gene" Eugene Mays, age 73, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024.  Born May 26, 1950, he was the son of the late George Myrul Mays and Lillian Sponaugle Mays of Staunton, VA.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Mays; and a nephew, George "Joey" Mays, III.

Gene is survived by his wife, Wanda Mays; son, Billy Mays and his wife, Carrie; grandchildren, Mason and Quinn Mays and Ryleigh and Knox Coffey; brother-in-law, Alan Angus; sister-in-law, Trish McKinney and her husband, Rick; sister-in-law, Debbie Angus; sister-in-law, Stephanie Quick; and several nieces and nephews.

Gene was a 1970 graduate of Riverheads High School.  He worked for NIBCO of Stuarts Draft for 45 years.  Gene was a member of Stuarts Draft Baptist Church.

Because of his love for old things, his favorite pastime was searching and collecting antiques at estate auctions, flea markets, and antique shows. In the process, he made many good friends over the years.

A graveside service honoring Gene will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Augusta Memorial Park.  Pastor Billy Coffey will be officiating.  Friends will be received an hour prior at the graveside.
