Linda Grey Barrett Batman

Linda Batman, 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of July 12 at her residence in Fishersville. She was born in High Point, North Carolina, daughter of Luther Mason Barrett and Blanche Elizabeth Barrett.

After graduating from Madison College with degrees in Elementary Education and Math and later taking a Master’s degree from James Madison University in Administration and Supervision, Linda was an educator for 40 years, teaching in Waynesboro Public Schools and serving as Principal of the Summer School Program for Augusta County.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Richard Barrett of Sebastian, Florida and brother-in-law, Cecil C. Murray of Danville, Virginia.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Norman Batman who she met in Waynesboro and married on July 12, 1969. They were blessed with two sons, Christopher Norman Batman of Waynesboro and Timothy David Batman (Brannelly), also of Waynesboro, as well as three granddaughters, Claire Elizabeth Batman, Kathryn Grace Batman, and Magdalene Grey Batman. Also surviving are two sisters, Jane E. Murray of Danville, Virginia and Barbara A. Sundstrom (Rod) of Banner Elk, North Carolina.

Per her wishes, there will be no formal funeral or public viewing.

There will be a private family graveside service at Augusta Memorial Park on Thursday July 16 at 2:00pm, being officiated by Rev. E.B. Shoemaker.
