Lorain Estelle (Hepner) Kent 102, passed away peacefully with family by her side on May 11, 2026 at Summit Square in Waynesboro, Virginia.

She was born on October 15, 1923 in Harrisonburg, Virginia the only child of William Albert Hepner and Elsie Bowman Hepner. She was the wife of John E. Kent for 52 years who predeceased her in 1997.

She was a graduate of Waynesboro High School, Class of 1940 and graduated from Dunsmore Business College in Staunton, Virginia. She worked as a stenographer at Basic-Witz Furniture Industry, Civil Service at Warner Robins Air Force Base in Georgia during World War II, and as head stenographer at E.I.DuPont in Waynesboro, Virginia.

She joined First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, VA in 1936 and was a life-long member. She was a seventy two year member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 105, Waynesboro as well as many other organizations. She moved to Summit Square in 2004 where she happily spent her last years.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Clark and husband Jim of Nellysford, Virginia and Karen Sowers and husband Steve of Nellysford, Virginia; three grandchildren, Matthew Clark and wife Chelsea of Afton, Hannah Ritchie of Evergreen, Colorado and Kent Ritchie and wife Meg of San Diego, California; one great granddaughter, Alice Genevieve Clark; two step-grandchildren, Ben Sowers (Fran) of Denver, Colorado and Emma Dawson (Michael) of Mechanicsville, Virginia; two step-great grandchildren, Addie and Sam Sowers.

The family is deeply grateful to the assisted living staff at Summit Square for their compassionate care and kindness. A special thanks to Legacy Hospice for their guidance and support.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on May 20, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.

A private burial will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
