Louisa Lucas Coburn (Lula, Lulu & Grandma Lulu) passed away on August 23, 2022 at home. She was born on January 22, 1918 in Walterboro, SC and was the daughter of P.J. Lucas and Ruth Bellinger Lucas who preceded her. She was the last of her family at 104.5 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Augustus Coburn. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Albert, Harvey, Pinckney, Saxby and sisters Ruth Clarkson and Annie Varn. Lulu was the beloved mother of Terry Team (Henry) and Rusty Coburn. She had 6 grandchildren; Susan Team Galloway (David) , Liz Team Garvey (Michael), Meg Team Humphreys (Jay), Rusty Coburn, Jr. , Courtney Coburn and Christopher Coburn. She also had 10 great-grandchildren; Ben, Peyton, John, Katie Beth, Bryce, Carrie, Winston-Elliott, Oliver, Sampson, Ruby and her beloved dog, Cricket. She loved her family with all of her heart and loved spending time with them as often as she could.
Lulu was a member of Allendale Presbyterian Church, in Allendale, SC until her move to Virginia in 2012 where she attended Westminster Presbyterian Church. Lulu was a teacher's aide for many years and loved working with the children of Allendale, SC. She was never idle as she was a member of multiple bridge clubs throughout her life. In her 70's she began painting and took community college painting classes to hone her craft. She served the community by volunteering with government elections and with Hospice services. She also loved shopping, flowers, completing word searches, crafting, watching sports, cheering on her great grandkids' sports, reading and most of all enjoyed visiting with her family and friends. She always said the key to her longevity was eating some type of chocolate everyday.
A memorial service will be held August 28, 2022 at 2pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, VA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in her name.
