Obituary

On Monday, January 16th Eleanor Louise Dorsey Shannon passed away peacefully in Fishersville. She was 97, a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Louise, as she was known to everyone, was born October 16, 1925, in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Erskine and Edith (Ramey) Dorsey. She grew up in Lewisburg, West Virginia, graduating from Lewisburg High School in 1943 and attending Greenbrier College there. She was married in 1948 to Paul Wailes Shannon, who preceded her in death in 1992. They moved to Waynesboro in 1952 and were charter members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in 1955. At Westminster she served as an elder, served the church in a number of other offices and capacities and was the Presbytery historian. She worked at General Electric and retired from the News-Virginian in 1987 after 24 years service as the Assistant Treasurer of the Corporation.

She loved the Shenandoah Valley and its mountains. Louise was a cheerleader in high school and loved sports, particularly basketball. She was a friend to everyone and most of all loved her church and its members.

She is survived by two children, Gene Shannon of Chesapeake, Virginia and Paula Shannon Schmanski of Lawrenceville, Georgia, two grandchildren Kelsey Shannon Graham of Austin, Texas and Mackenzie Shannon Keiler of Virginia Beach, Virginia and one great grandchild Henry Graham of Austin, Texas.

Interment will be beside her husband in Riverview Cemetery, Waynesboro.

A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro, at a later date.
