Obituary

Luther Pernell Tingler, Jr., 57, of Waynesboro, Virginia passed unexpectedly on the morning  of June 9, 2022 after suffering an Ischemic Stroke on March 22, 2022.

Luther was born on October 23, 1964 in Prince George's County, Maryland to loving parents Luther Pernell Tingler, Sr. and Mildred Maxine(Lafferty) Tingler. He was a press mechanic at Penny Plate, LLC in Fishersville, Virginia at the time of his passing. Upon moving to Virginia in the late 1970's he gained a very special new set of parents, John Washington Sr. and wife Mattie Colesta Winston.

Luther Jr. earned a GED from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development in 1984. From there he worked various jobs until his mother became ill, at which point he became her constant companion and caregiver for many years until her passing.

Luther was a loving uncle to all of his nieces and nephews and truly loved all of his family equally.

He was passionate about both his work and hobbies. Some of his hobbies included cooking, sculpting, abstract pen art, Oriental martial art movies and later in life, mobile gaming. He was our silent teddy bear and the glue that tied the family together through thick and thin.

Luther was preceded in death by both parents, Luther Pernell Tingler, Sr. and Mildred Maxine(Lafferty) Tingler; his brother Kenneth Preston Dominowski; sisters Shirley Ann Barrett, Betty Lou Groves and Joan Marie Painter; a very special nephew, Damian Antony Tingler; his dear Aunt Arvetta "Pat Pat" Harter, Aunt Jean Thomas, Aunt Bobbie Ann Phillips and Uncle Kenneth Lafferty; and his brother from another mother and father, John Washington Winston, Jr., all of whom he is now in the presence of.

Luther is survived by sisters Sarah Jane and husband Richard "James" Love, Zoanna Kay and husband Richard Allen Hewitt, Eula Mae and husband Dewey Steele, Sandra Tingler Roberts, Ruth Marie and husband Ernest Dexter Hoge and one brother Robert Sr. and wife Tonya Lafferty and a special niece, Alicia Renee Lafferty; cousins Susan Harter, Vida Harter, Johnny Harter, Danny Harter(deceased), Robert Thomas, Destry Thomas, Dorenda Krosting, Theresa Mittan, David Lafferty, Tommy Lafferty and Kenneth Lafferty.

In honoring Luther's wishes there will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, June 25, 2022. It will be held at 2:00 PM at the Waynesboro Moose Lodge 1309, 481 Hopeman Parkway, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980. There will be food and non-alcoholic drinks provided. All friends and family are welcome.

Honorary pallbearers will be his Penny Plate and Waffle House family.

In lieu of flowers Luther had requested that you remember to tip wait staff, especially on bar night at Waffle House.
A special thank you to the University of Virginia staff, nurses, doctors and therapists on 6 North and 6 West. The loving care, friendship and support they provided during his time in their care was invaluable, comforting and deeply appreciated.
