Scott Custin died on July 11, 2022 at Augusta Health.

Scott was employed by The Washington Post for 47 years beginning as a printer and advancing through the ranks in the Systems and Engineering Department to serve as Systems Consultant until his retirement in 2019. He was a resident of Washington, D.C. until moving to the Summit Square retirement community in Waynesboro, Virginia. He was awarded the newspaper's prestigious Eugene Meyer Award in 1998 in recognition for hisexemplary service in upholding the principles espoused by Meyer, the long-time newspaper publisher. In receiving the award, his ability was noted as nearly legendary for diagnosing systemic computer problems and fixing the unfixable.

Scott was born in New Jersey on August 22, 1948 and was raised in the small village of Baldwinsville outside Syracuse, New York. He graduated from C.W. Baker High School where he was active on the debate team and a voracious reader. He was a graduate of American University with a B.S. in Political Science. Continuing his appetite for reading, he was often so absorbed in reading his favorite journal, The Economist, that he became oblivious to those around him.

He is survived by his mother Jeane C. Custin of Waynesboro, Virginia, brother
Jay (Kim) of Collinsville, Virginia, niece Cadence (Jaime Longabaugh) of Baltimore,
MD, and nephews Alex (Amanda McCrea) of Silver Spring, MD, Bryson, and Colton
of Collinsville, VA. He was predeceased by his father Thomas Grant Custin and his
brother Dean Thomas Custin.
