Marjorie McIntosh Childress, formerly of 22 Ashleigh Dr., Waynesboro, passed away on May 4, 2022 surrounded by her family at Waynesboro Manor. She was born on August 30, 1938 in Edinburgh, Scotland to the late James and Rose McIntosh. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold E. Childress who died in 2004 after 44 ½ years of marriage.
She is survived by two loving sons and their wives: Marshall and Luann Childress; Kenny and Bonnie Childress; her grandchildren Brittney Childress, Gavin Childress, Kaitlyn and husband Evan Burgener. "They have been blessings in our lives."
Marjorie is also survived by her brother Harry McIntosh, his wife and son Dianna and Mark; a sister Norma Ferguson (widow of Robert Ferguson) and her children Lindsay and Sandra, and grandchild, Gaynor all of Scotland. (Her grandson Connor died in 2015.); many cousins and their families in Scotland, England, and Australia, as well as dear friends here in the U.S. and other countries.
Her husband, Harold's family who survive: five sisters Joanne Hoops (widow of Ben Hoops), Kat and John Nebel, Maxine Yeager (widow of Roy J. Yeager), Lois and Bill Hookham, and Sharon and German Ruiz; brother Wayne and Judy Childress. They, along with their extended families have been a wonderful source of support and caring. Brother Tommy died in 2015 – wife Jean 2022; and brother Roy died in 2012. Marjorie felt blessed to have such a caring and loving family and dearest friends at Second Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro where she and Harold were devoted members for many years. She continued old friendships from working at Augusta County Schools where she retired in 1996 after 26 years of service. She completed the necessary requirements and became a U.S. citizen in April, 1964. Treasured friends Linda and Lewis Jessee introduced us back in Tazewell, VA.
The family will receive friends at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro on Tuesday, May 10th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 11 at 11:00 am at Augusta Memorial Park.
