Obituary

Mark Alan Hammock, of Waynesboro, VA, passed away on July 7, 2022, at the age of 67. Mark was born in Chattanooga, TN on May 25, 1955, to Branch and Mildred Hammock and grew up with his brother Randolph and sisters Susan and Janice. After moving to Waynesboro he met his wife Pamela (Persing) in high school.  Mark and Pam married in 1981 and remained inseparable since. Mark's greatest pride came from his family—especially his daughter, Anna. Mark was always Anna's biggest cheerleader, never missing a sporting event or major milestone in her life. She was the light of his life.

In 1977 Mark graduated from the University of Richmond and went on to attend the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. Upon graduating as a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1981, Mark began practicing in Fishersville, where he continued to serve his patients until his retirement in January 2022. Mark also generously volunteered his time at the Augusta Regional Dental Clinic.

Mark had an adventurous spirit. He enjoyed traveling, visiting more than 20 countries on five continents. He loved playing racquetball, pickelball, and enjoyed hiking and skiing. Mark loved local history, especially Civil War history. Mark was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, having served as a Deacon and Usher.

Mark will be remembered for his love of his family, adventurous spirit, and dedication to his community. He was a devoted son, brother, father, and granddaddy. Mark is survived by his father, Branch; his wife, Pam; his daughter and son-in-law, Anna Hammock and Anit Sharma; and grandchildren, Ayaan and Liya Sharma. He is also survived by his brother Randolph, and sisters Susan and Jan.

A service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 249 S. Wayne Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980 on Saturday, July 16 th at 2:00 pm.
