Martha Proctor McLeod "Marty" Johnson passed from this life to her heavenly home on December 10, 2022, at her home at the age of 76. She was born on August 9, 1946, in Alexandria, Virginia. She graduated from Emory and Henry College with a BA in history where she met the love of her life, Elgene Johnson. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage together.

She was preceded in death by her father Robert Peale McLeod and mother Lady Betty Chandler McLeod.

She is survived by her husband Elgene, daughter Jennifer McLeod Johnson Wells and her husband Scott and her son Matthew Elgene Johnson and his wife Kelli. She is also survived by granddaughters, Karisa Wells and Victoria Johnson, grandsons Konner Johnson and Harrison Wells and brother-in-law Mack Johnson and sister-in-law Alice Johnson.

Martha taught elementary school for several years and did pre-school testing. She also enjoyed working with children in Pioneer Club, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was an avid reader and volunteered at the library for several years.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. During the summer, she made significant time available to be with each grandchild individually.

Viewing will be at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro on Wednesday, December 14 from 5pm to 7pm. Her burial will be at Middle Fork Cemetery family plot in Smyth County, Virginia. A memorial service will be held at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro on Saturday, December 17, at 11am.
